Conferences and Entering Time in Workday

 

For those staff attending conferences here is how to mark your time in Workday.

For each day, you need to manually change the "Time Type" at the top of the hours form so that it reads "Training or Conference" and then enter 8 hours of time.  

If you forget to enter your time, or need to make changes, please contact your supervisor.

ALA and MLA conference funding deadlines

 Here are some upcoming conference application deadlines:

ALA Annual Conference funding requests are due by March 7, 2024.

MLA Annual Conference funding requests are due by March 14, 2025.

Emails with funding amounts and other information will be coming soon.

Library Associate Graduation Fall 2024

On November 6, 2024, five of our Library Associates completed their final session of the Library Associate Training Institute.  The graduation ceremony was held at the Miller Branch of Howard County Public Library, and the graduates presented their capstone projects and received their certificates.

The program also included remarks by Maryland State Librarian Morgan Miller, MLA president Teonja Jung, and a keynote from Dr. Mark Winston, CEO of the Prince George’s County Memorial Library System.

In addition to our staff, there were graduates from Baltimore County, Charles County, Frederick County, PGCMLS, Washington County, Western MD Regional, and a suprising number of graduates from the Howard County system.  

Tours of the Miller branch were available and a hearty lunch was provided.

MLA Chats is a new virtual quarterly forum where MLA members can participate in a facilitated discussion on topics impacting their work and librarianship in general. October's session will focus on AI, library trends, and future-casting. This session will be facilitated by Thomas Vose (Director, Ruth Enlow Library of Garrett County), and Laura Bandoch (Materials Assistant Director Harford County Public Library). This will not be recorded.
